The name – Italian for swallow – is inspired by its silhouette: like the tail of a swallow, the rear structure of the backrest opens out to form the back legs. A solution that guarantees the stability of the chair while at the same time giving it a unique and iconic appearance. The company’s passion for archetypal European designs of the late 1950s and early 1960s is revealed in the generous curve of the seat and backrest. The latter, egg-shaped, is in padded curved poplar plywood and can be upholstered in fabric, leather or natural leather. The seat, also in padded curved plywood, is attached to the frame using four turned brass pivots. The backrest is fixed to the wooden frame with screws, hidden by two brass “disks” attached using magnets.

Armchair made entirely from FSC-certified solid American walnut according to a 2017 design by DRAW Studio. Although at first sight it might appear to be a homage to classic Scandinavian designs, the construction techniques reveal the company’s strong wood crafting tradition. In fact, Rondine embodies all of its expertise in combining technology with artisan tradition.
